Hermon Community Primary School March to raise awareness and raise money
The parents and friends of the Pembrokeshire Primary School at Hermon will March through the major towns and villages of Pembrokeshire on Saturday the 20/09/03 to highlight the plights of thriving primary schools threatened with closure by the Local Education Authorities. The Hermon campaign has now received a landmark boost to its hope of ensuring a fair hearing for the parents views when the children of the school were awarded Legal Aid to challenge the locals councils consultation process. (The first school in Wales to receive Legal Aid for such a campaign)
The parents have been busy arranging fund raising events to ensure that the campaign has sufficient money to purchase campaign materials to ensure the maximum inhabitants of Pembrokeshire are made aware of the strength of feeling that the Communities of Hermon, Glog and Llanfyrnach have towards retaining their school.
The Campaign Tour and Town March will start at Hermon at 9.00am where the support indicated to date has resulted in further buses being required. The campaigners will march through Llandissilio, Clunderwen and Narberth before moving on to Hayscastle, Milford and Pembroke. During the afternoon the buses will move on to Haverfordwest, Fishguard and Eglwyswrw before returning to Hermon. The campaigners would welcome all support from the residence of the tows and villages on route and during the march we will have collection bucket to raise funds for the campaign. Also on Friday the 26/09/03 the residents of the villages of Hermon, Glog and Llanfyrnach are arranging a large Campaign fundraising event - A pig Roast and Auction at the Hermon Playing where the Community Owned 70ft by 40ft Marquee will ensure weather cover for the event. The support to date has been overwhelming with donations and auction items being received from near and far. The Welsh World Cup rugby team have provided shirts and a signed rugby ball, a flight around Pembrokeshire has been donated, numerous restaurant meals, original paintings, theme park tickets, quality gifts / services and many more item currently totalling over 40 auction items.
