Dear Bryn Parry-Jones

Please see below reference made to a recent broadcast by Rhodri Morgan, also please note that Hermon School's expenditure Budget for the year is below the county average as per County Council Statement Document 2003-04. I would be grateful if you could clarify this point during the cabinet meeting on Monday. Finally I have read the recommendation document as put forward by Mr Gerson Davies, as a crucial educational development plan document it does not highlight any possible threats or weaknesses that the county might have to overcome should the recommendation be adopted. There was a research questioner carried out by the Hermon School of governors last year, where a copy was sent to the Director of Education (this was not featured in the proposal), the main outcome of this questioner was that the parents of Hermon school would be transferring their children on block to Tegryn & Glandwr schools. should the school at Hermon be forced to closed i.e. continuing with a village primary education rather than an area school/secondary school campus education, congested with early learning/e-learning/adult learning & leisure centre  logistics of safety & traffic problems. We are also aware of numerous parents at Blaenffos school who will be transferring their children to Eglwyswrw school. The projected children figures for the new school are only 141 (capacity 180) according to Mr Gerson Davies report, losing a possible further 40 plus transfers could pose serious questions as too how much genuine consultation and research has gone into identifying the true primary educational needs within our rural societies in North Pembrokeshire. I would propose that an independent body takes on the work of consulting with all parties rather than a one side view as is being presented on Monday. If the views of the population (voters) of Hermon, Glog & Llanfyrnach are not conveyed in a truer manner on Monday then we will be contacting the Assembly to insist on an official enquiry into the consultation process.

Diolch am eich cefnogaeth

Annwyl Rhodri Morgan

Please see below an E-mail sent to Adi Bloom of the Time News Paper - She does with to run with the story of an active Welsh primary school (full capacity) within a vibrant Welsh community being recommended for closure by Pembrokeshire County Council. I would very much wish to confirm your standpoint and that of the Assembly on such proposals. I also heard your comments on the BBC Wales - Good Morning Wales Programme recorded 29/04/03 where you did confirm  that if educational and financial effectiveness of small schools were in line with expectations and council budgets then there was no case for closing them. Hermon School is a community school which is at full capacity. The last Estyn/HMI Inspection confirmed a Good Educational Provision. The official Pembrokeshire Education Budgets for 2003-04 as prepared by the County Council shows the cost per pupil at Hermon being £2,522 compared with the county average of £2,561. Hermon has a strong Welsh speaking community where we hope that we can have the backing of the Welsh Assembly Leaders to ensure that this community school is not allowed to closed. If you can confirm your standpoint, I can then confirm with the Times Newspaper what your views are on this matter.

Diolch am eich cefnogaeth

F.A.O. - Adi Bloom : Times News Paper - Education Supplement

Hi Adi -

Just a copy to you of our school e-mail campaign to try and persuade the Pembrokeshire County Council Cabinet members not to close one of the vibrant small village school in the county - The capacity of the school is 50 where currently we have 54 pupils with village plans indicating we could see further increases. The villagers have forged ahead and have concrete plans for a new Community Centre which will double up as a school day time facility thus allowing expansion of the school without the Council having to spend a penny. They do not seem to be supportive of our initiatives and would rather close the school! If you would like to talk to me give me a call on 01239 831962 or 07974099738
